Aurora's Chris Pollak, Nick Pollak each capture area youth golf tournament titles

Chris Pollak of Aurora played his way to the first-round lead with a 5-under-par 67, and added a 76 in the final round to earn his second consecutive championship at the NOPGA Kenny Novak tourney.

Pollak shot 1-under-par over 36 holes to best Carter Begue of Dover, who completed the tourney at 6-over-par. Pollak, a sophomore at Hoban, won the 13-to-15 age division in 2021 and decided to move up an age division this season.

Former Portage County Matt Mishler Junior Amateur champion Dylan Dunn of Stow earned a top 10 at the Kenny Novak, firing 10-over-par after a first-round 74. Max Devins of Aurora also landed in the top 10, carding a 156 total.

Rounding out the local golfers in the Kenny Novak were Aurora’s Gracyn Vidovic (4th place in the girls 11-to-15 age division, +21) and Kent’s Madolyn Kost (tiedfor 7th place in the girls 16-to-19 age division, +18).

MUD RUN FUTURES TOUR…

The Northern Ohio PGA concluded the Futures Tour for youths ages 8 to 16 with a championship at Mud Run Golf Course in Akron.

The boys 8-to-11 age division was dominated by local golfers at the top of the leaderboard.

It was a good week for the Pollak family as Nick Pollak, brother of the Kenny Novak champion Chris Pollak, earned first place at 2-over-par. He topped Nathan Kinter, a future Southeast High School golfer, by five strokes.

More than 30 kids competed in the championship.

The 16th Portage County Matt Mishler Junior Amateur and the 92nd Amateur concluded this week, with the final round of the Amateur played on Sunday.

Next up is the 52nd Senior Amateur, always scheduled for the final full weekend of August (27-28).
