Aussie rules football game to set COVID crowd record

The bumper crowd at the 100,000-seat Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for the top flight match may eclipse the 67,200 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad where England beat India in the first Twenty20 cricket match on March 12.

Authorities in Australia's southern state of Victoria, of which Melbourne is the capital, lifted a cap on crowds at sporting events to 75% from 50% after declaring the state officially free of COVID-19 on Tuesday (March 23).

That allowed a maximum of 75,000 to pack the MCG for the Blues and Magpies, one of Australian sport's oldest and fiercest rivalries.
