Austin Animal Shelter To Stage Adoption Event

AUSTIN, TX — Amid physical distancing measures and space limitations at the Austin Animal Center, an adoption event at the facility's lawn scheduled Saturday will enhance furry friends to find forever homes.

In an emailed advisory on Friday, Austin Animal Center officials said the coronavirus-spurred challenges have combined to make adoption appointments weeks in advance to adopt a pet. Given that reality, shelter officials have scheduled a "Sunrise Adoption" event requiring no appointment in featuring a limited number of pre-selected dogs ready to find forever homes.

The event will take place at the shelters front lawn to ensure physical distancing, and attendees will be required to wear protective face coverings. The event is scheduled at the Austin Animal Shelter, 7201 Levander Loop, this Saturday (Sept. 12) from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., officials said.

"The Sunrise superstar dogs will be stationed around lawn where potential adopters can line up to meet them," shelter officials wrote. "All adoptions will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The shelter facility will not be open during this event, and adoptions will be limited to the dogs on the lawn."

Adoption fees are continuing to be waived for all animals at Austin Animal Center, including those in foster care, officials said. For more information visit the Facebook event page.
