Austin medics respond to 16 incidents at scorching hot UT vs. Rice game Saturday
Everyone knew Saturday's football game between the University of Texas Longhorns and the Rice Owls was going to be a scorcher with a kickoff off 2:30 p.m. With some temperatures even registering around 150 degrees on the field at Royal-Memorial Stadium, Austin-Travis County EMS was sure to be busy with heat-related incidents.
According to EMS, medics responded to 16 incidents and took eight people to the hospital. Six of the medical incidents were reported as heat-related.
EMS also reported that approximately 80 people were treated at aid stations in the stadium. Half of those incidents appeared to have been heat-related, EMS said.
