Here are our top picks for live music events in the Austin area July 14-20.

Thursday: 'The Drop-In' with Geto Gala at Long Center Lawn

The Long Center’s free summer concert series continues with Jake Lloyd and Deezie Brown’s outstanding rap duo. The pair established themselves as a force in new Southern rap with their eponymous 2021 debut, which unfolds as a celebration of obstacles overcome and aspirations achieved. It’s an ambitious platter of rich lyricism slow-dripped with Texas soul, an opulent ode to Southern swag clad in designer duds. Lloyd and Brown describe the project as “an experience,” a celebration for their people and this midsummer throwdown is a fine way to join the party. San Gabriel opens. 8 p.m. Free with RSVP at longcenter.org.

Friday: Brandi Carlile, Lucius at Waterloo Park

When Carlile first gained attention with her 2005 self-titled debut album, it was hard to know just how influential and broad-reaching her music would become. Early on, she was more of an indie-folk artist, but she soon gravitated toward Americana, winning a Grammy in that category for her 2018 album, “By the Way, I Forgive You.” Then came a crossover into country: She spearheaded the formation of supergroup the Highwomen, and she produced a comeback album for Tanya Tucker. Her live performances are very much a band affair, with twin brothers Tim and Phil Hanseroth a significant part of her sound. This show follows Carlile’s “Austin City Limits” taping at ACL Live earlier in the week; also taping the program, but on Sunday, is opening act Lucius. (Both tapings will be livestreamed at acltv.com.) $125-$365. 7 p.m. waterloogreenway.org.

Friday: Purity Ring at ACL Live

If you’re into shimmery synths and sweating your woes away, Purity Ring is here for you. Expect the Canadian trip-pop duo to serve up kitten-voiced savagery and evocative electronics on the twice-delayed tour for their 2020 album, “Womb.” Indie artist ekkstacy opens. $31. 8 p.m. acl-live.com.

Friday: Roky Erickson Birthday & Ice Cream Social at Hotel Vegas

We’re not sure exactly how ice cream socials became associated with celebrated Austin psych-rock pioneer Erickson. They started during South by Southwest a couple of decades ago, and although Erickson died in 2019, the ice cream socials continue. Friday would have been his 74th birthday, and Hotel Vegas is celebrating with free ice cream (while supplies last) at 8 p.m., followed by music from Bernardo Mountainair (9 p.m.), Gus Baldwin & the Sketch (9:45 p.m.), Tearjerk (10:30 p.m.), Stacks (11:15 p.m.) and Sailor Poon (midnight). $10. texashotelvegas.com.

Friday-Saturday: Antone’s 47th anniversary with Betty Harris, more at Antone’s

Austin’s home of the blues celebrates its birthday every year with a monthlong run of shows, but the actual date of its opening was July 15, 1975. The club marks its official 47th anniversary with soul/R&B singer Betty Harris at 8:45 p.m., followed by a classic blues set from bassist Bob Stroger and guitarist Bob Margolin plus Anson Funderburgh and the Antone’s house band at 9:45 p.m. Lindsay Beaver & Brad Stivers open at 8 p.m. The show repeats on Saturday, but with local blues-scene godfather W.C. Clark in the 9:45 p.m. slot. $18 each night. antonesnightclub.com.

Saturday: Rebirth Brass Band at Far Out Lounge

One of New Orleans’ top touring jazz acts since the 1980s, Rebirth has released more than 10 albums on labels such as Rounder and Arhoolie, winning a best regional roots music Grammy for their 2011 album “Rebirth of New Orleans.” Though their sound is based in traditional NOLA jazz, they incorporate elements of funk, soul and hip-hop into their eclectic approach. The band’s profile got a boost a decade ago when the HBO series “Treme” featured band members and Rebirth songs in many episodes. Local funk band the Capital opens. $22-$27. 8 p.m. doors. thefaroutaustin.com.

Train is part of a triple bill that also includes Jewel and Blues Traveler at the Germania Insurance Amphitheater on Tuesday

Tuesday: Train, Jewel, Blues Traveler at Germania Insurance Amphitheater

Jewel (“You Were Meant for Me,” “Foolish Games”) and Blues Traveler (“Run-Around,” “Hook”) had their biggest hits in the 1990s, while Train scored its smashes “Drops of Jupiter” and “Hey, Soul Sister” in the decade that followed. But they still have enough combined drawing power to warrant a summer tour of large venues. And there’s new stuff, too. In April, Jewel released “Freewheelin’ Woman,” her first album in seven years. A month later, Train, with frontman Pat Monahan the lone original member still aboard, issued “AM Gold,” its first since 2017. Blues Traveler’s latest, the almost-self-titled “Traveler’s Blues,” came out in 2021. $10-$100. 6 p.m. germaniaamp.com.
