'Inspired by fashion, friendship'

The limited-edition Barbie x Kendra Scott collection consists of a six-piece selection that is "inspired by fashion, friendship and being a force for good," said Kendra Scott, founder, designer and executive chairwoman of the brand.

The jewelry line includes two necklaces, two bracelets and two pairs of earrings. The design is influenced by classic Kendra Scott design, along with the recognizable pink hue associated with Barbie. The Barbie line will be available at Kendra Scott retail stores as well as over the company's website. Prices range from $60-$250.

Promoting girl leaders

For every purchase of the Barbie x Kendra Scott Everlyne friendship bracelet, Kendra Scott said it will donate 20% of the proceeds to the Barbie Dream Gap Project, which supports the efforts of Girls Inc. to promote a new generation of girl leaders. “Barbie x Kendra Scott draws from a desire to help women feel confident, powerful, and capable of anything that we set our minds to," Scott said. "Growing up, Barbie taught me that beauty comes in many forms, and most importantly, to pursue my passions. I’m so proud to partner together on a collection that celebrates both fashion and philanthropy so we can continue to inspire the next generation of girls to dream even bigger.”

The Barbie brand

Global toy company Mattel launched the Barbie doll in 1959. Mattel has sold more than 1 billion Barbie dolls, making it the company's largest and most profitable line.

Barbie and her friend Ken have been described as two of the most popular dolls in the world. There has been criticism about the dolls creating an unrealistic body image ideal for young women. In recent years, Mattel has launched a number of lines including diverse Barbies and career Barbies in a number of professional fields.

After up and down sales in past decades, the Barbie brand is coming back strong — the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, who portrays Ken, is one of the most highly anticipated films of 2023.
