Australian jailed for Bali policeman's death is freed

Australian woman, Sara Connor, who was jailed for the death of a policeman on the Indonesian holiday island of Bali, walked free on Thursday (July 16).

The 49-year-old was jailed in March 2017 together with British man David Taylor for their roles in the death of a traffic policeman, whose body was found on the popular Kuta beach with neck and head wounds.

Connor was met by a scrum of photographers at her release. She gave no comment as she arrived at the local immigration office.

She was freed early 13 months short of her full term due to her good behavior.

Her lawyer, Sienny Karmana, spoke outside the prison:

"I think everybody who will be released will be very happy, especially when she wants to meet the family, but I don't know about the next plan."

Both defendants denied murder and said a fight broke out over Connor's missing purse.

Connor testified that she saw Taylor beating policeman Wayan Sudarsa, but the judge ruled that she had held the victim down while he was being struck.

She is expected to return to Australia on Friday (July 17).
