Elmore Co. schools closed Tuesday, Montgomery & Autauga to be virtual

With a winter weather advisory in place in the River Region, both Montgomery Public Schools and Autauga County Schools students will be learning from home on Tuesday, and Elmore County schools will be closed for the day.

Montgomery and Autauga school systems announced Monday that they will observe a virtual learning day Tuesday out of an abundance of caution.

Richard Dennis, Superintendent of Elmore County Public Schools, announced Monday afternoon that after consulting with the Elmore County EMA, all Elmore County Public Schools will be closed Tuesday.

"Enjoy the extra day at home and stay warm," Dennis said.

Forecasts call for temperatures in the area to dip into the mid-teens, and there is a hard freeze warning.

“Your child’s school will send a message soon through ParentSquare regarding how you can access tomorrow’s assignments,” Autauga County Schools announced Monday on social media. “All virtual day assignments can be submitted for credit through January 19, so please do not stress over a lack of devices or internet connectivity.”

All MPS offices and schools will observe the virtual day, MPS announced Monday afternoon.

Both Autauga and Elmore counties said a normal school day is anticipated for Wednesday, but that the situation could update.

"We expect to be return to a regular schedule Wednesday as the precipitation dissipates," Dennis said. "On Wednesday buses may run behind schedule due to the low temperatures, so makes sure your child wears warm clothing, and register for your child's bus Remind code for updates."
