Famed author and New Jersey Hall of Fame inductee Carol Higgins Clark died Monday after a three-year battle with appendix cancer.

Clark, 66, was born in New York City and raised in Washington Township. The daughter of another famous author, Mary Higgins Clark, she got her start by helping her mother retype manuscripts. She credited the chore with helping her to understand writing.

Clark went to the all-girls private school Immaculate Heart Academy in Bergen County before continuing her education at Mount Holyoke College in Massachusetts.

Full of life, she attended the 45th anniversary reunion of her college graduation just weeks ago.

Her career spanned decades and included an 18-novel series starring Private Investigator Regan Reilly as the central character. Clark even teamed up with her mother for four novels.

Many of her books were made into movies for television and she appeared in each one.

Her first novel was published in 1992, when she was 36. For that book, she was nominated for the 1992 Agatha Award and the Anthony Award for "Best First Novel."

Clark studied acting at the Beverly Hills Playhouse and has performed on stage and in films. She is also a successful voice actress and audio book narrator.

But writing was always her passion. She called it an “integral part” of her life and said in 2016 that continued to inspire her every day.

She was also involved in charity including Catholic Charities and Project Angel Food, an organization that prepares and delivers medically tailored meals to people living with serious illness as well as ACPMP, an appendix cancer research foundation.

There will be awake on Monday at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Chapel on Madison Avenue in Manhattan, according to her obituary. A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday at the Church of St. Vincent Ferrer on Lexington Avenue in Manhattan. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, Queens, New York.
