Author Jeff Goodell coming to the Slover library to discuss sea level rise, climate change

Jeff Goodell, author and journalist who has documented rising sea levels, will speak at Slover Library Thursday to discuss climate change.

Goodell, a contributing editor at Rolling Stone magazine, is known for his expertise in climate change and energy policy. His most recent book, “The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World,” includes Hampton Roads and looks at what life might be like when sea levels rise.

Goodell captured firsthand accounts from residents about the impact of flooding in Norfolk. Organizations such as the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Elizabeth River Project will also participate in the event to discuss better flood management strategies in Hampton Roads.

In his book, Goodell not only explored science and policy but asked ethical questions such as whether landlocked states in the U.S. will accept climate refugees, domestic or abroad.

A reception will follow the event.
