Author of 'Mackinac Island’s Grand Hotel' to speak at Colon Library

Since 1887, the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island has been a summer destination.

Those who are captivated by its history, grandeur and ambiance can learn more at 7 p.m. Friday at Colon Township Library.

Storyteller and author Mike Fornes is coming to the Colon library to share his knowledge of the legendary "America's Summer Place."

Fornes, a resident of Mackinaw City, covered the Straits of Mackinac for various media outlets including radio, television and Cheboygan Daily Tribune.

He has given more than 2,000 tours of the Mackinac Bridge, USCGC Mackinaw, Grand Hotel and offers presentations on the subjects around the country

The author of several books, including "Mackinaw Island’s Grand Hotel," and “Mackinac Bridge: A 50 year chronicle 1957-2007,” Fornes is also a member of the Historical Society of Michigan.

The public is welcome.
