Authorities: Arson cause of fire causing $100,000 in damage in Euclid
Oct. 13—Investigators have determined that arson was the cause of a house fire on Miller Avenue in Euclid that caused $100,000 in damage.
According to Euclid Fire Department Assistant Chief Will Anderson, at 2:37 a.m. on Oct. 12, firefighters responded to 20730 Miller Ave. for a house fire that was reported by someone passing by.
On arrival at 2:42 a.m., crews found fire venting from the back and side of the house on the second floor and flames coming from a door on the first floor that leads to the second floor where the main body of fire was located.
The flames were darkened down with a deck gun for the second floor fire and with a hoseline from the exterior at the door leading to the second floor, according to Anderson.
After the flames were somewhat controlled, Anderson said crews entered the home through a second-floor window since the stairwell from the first floor to the second floor had burned away. Searches of the structure for people were negative and the fire was declared under control at 3:09 a.m.
No injuries have been reported.
An investigation shows the house is owned but not being rented currently.
According to Anderson, investigators, with the help of the Heights-Hillcrest Fire Investigation Unit and State Fire Marshal with an accelerant-detection canine, determined that this was the result of arson resulting in $100,000 in damages to the structure.
At this time, there are no leads and samples have been sent for laboratory testing.
