In a Facebook post, the Bellingham Police Department noted that while the victim was not a student in Bellingham Public Schools, officers are aware that "that other young people from Bellingham were in attendance at the party where the shooting occurred."

"Out of an abundance of caution, there will be an increased police presence at the (Bellingham) High School in the coming days," police said in their statement. "Additionally, the high school will have guidance staff available to speak with anyone affected by this tragic incident.

"Our thoughts go out to the family of the victim of this senseless incident."

During Sunday's press conference, Early said that shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday, somebody attending the party at 333 Howard St. flagged down a police officer and told them that another attendee had brandished a gun.

The police officer requested assistance from state police and from several departments in nearby communities, Early said.

The DA said that while officers were preparing to enter the approximately two-acre property, they heard "multiple gunshots."

"Officers entered the property and the home, and found what can only be described as a chaotic scene," Early said, noting that about 300 people were in attenndance.

The DA said the shooting victim was transported to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, where he was pronounced dead.

Early said a 17-year-old was also shot during the house party. That shooting victim was transported to Marlborough Hospital, where the teen was treated and released.

Two other people were treated at Marlborough Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said, adding that still others who appeared to be injured declined to be taken to a hospital.
