Authorities confirm company doing work on DiamondHead Beach Resort when electrician died

Days after an electrician died while working on a Fort Myers Beach property, federal authorities said they've opened an investigation.

Erika Ruthman, spokesperson for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Labor, said they identified the employer as Current Electric Services, a company based in Fort Myers.

A receptionist for Current Electric Services answered the phone Friday morning and said she'd forward a request for comment to the "appropriate party."

According to a redacted incident report from the Lee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the parking lot at DiamondHead Beach Resort, 2000 Estero Blvd.

When they arrived, they contacted the coworker, who said he and the victim were working on an inground electric box. The reporting coworker walked away and found the victim unresponsive when he returned, the report indicated.

First responders determined the victim died shortly after 1:30 p.m.

A receptionist for SunStream Hotels & Resorts, the company managing the property, answered the phone, but the company didn't return a request for comment.
