Authorities convince person with a firearm to leave South Windsor home

A barricaded individual prompted a large multi-town police response in South Windsor on Sunday, according to police.

Officers responded to a residence on Strong Road around 6 p.m. for reports of a individual who had a firearm and was allegedly threatening to harm themself, police said. The person was not identified.

After several attempts to make contact were unsuccessful, the Capitol Region Emergency Services Team was called to assist and were able to successfully get the individual out of the residence and into protective custody at about 9 p.m., police said.

CREST is comprised of officers from Manchester, Glastonbury, Vernon, South Windsor, Wethersfield, Enfield, East Windsor, Coventry, Rocky Hill, Cromwell and the University of Connecticut Police Department trained in barricaded suspects and hostage incidents.

The individual was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation.
