Authorities identify 2 people who were killed in rollover crash in Worcester

Authorities have identified two people who were killed in a rollover crash in Worcester over the weekend.

Troopers responding to a report of a two-vehicle crash on the eastbound side of Route 290 near Exit 25 around 7 a.m. Saturday found a 2001 Nissan Frontier that rolled over after being struck by a 2009 Toyota Matrix, according to Massachusetts State Police.

Two people who were in the Frontier, 65-year-old Luc Morin and 52-year-old Christine Banavige, both of New Britain, Connecticut, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation indicates the Matrix was traveling in the right lane when the driver suddenly swerved into the middle lane and struck the right rear corner of the Frontier. The impact caused the Frontier to spin out and crash against the guardrail.

The operators of the Matrix, a 52-year-old Worcester man, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. His name has not been released.

Police have not yet announced charges in connection with the crash.

An investigation remains ongoing.
