CROOKS — The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office has identified the person killed in a rollover crash on Tuesday.

MCSO Patrol Captain Adam Zishka told the Argus Leader on Thursday authorities determined 45-year-old Carl Leroy Nelson of Sioux Falls was the man who died after crashing his SUV near a church in Minnehaha County.

Responders were sent to the intersection of 254th Street and 471st Avenue north of Crooks at approximately 12:58 p.m. Tuesday to a rollover crash.

Upon arriving on scene, crews discovered Nelson's maroon SUV flipped onto its roof.

According to a Tuesday press release from Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Mason Braun, the SUV was traveling west on 254th Street when the driver, now identified as Nelson, lost control of the vehicle and entered the south ditch.

The vehicle rolled as a result, the release continued, and Nelson was partially ejected from the SUV.

Nelson was pronounced dead on scene, the release indicated. Braun told Argus Leader no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

Zishka said Nelson was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.

The patrol captain added the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
