Topeka police on Saturday were investigating as a homicide the death of 39-year-old Mack Lee, found deceased Friday morning at 608 S.W. Lincoln.

Lee's cause and manner of death remained under investigation. No arrests had been made.

Officers found Lee's body after being called to the scene soon after 10 a.m., said Topeka police Lt. Jerry Monasmith.

After initially reporting police were sent to the scene to check on Lee's welfare, Monasmith corrected that Friday evening to say they were sent there on a call regarding a "past assault with medical response."

He added, "The Topeka Police Department homicide unit is reviewing all investigative leads and evidence as the case is ongoing."

The house were Lee was found was a rental property, according to Shawnee County Appraiser's Office records.

Lee became Topeka's first homicide victim of 2022. The city recorded 14 homicides in 2021.

Monasmith asked anyone with information that might help detectives to email telltpd@topeka.org or call the Topeka police criminal investigation bureau at 785-368- 9400.

Anonymous tips can be made by calling Shawnee County Crime Stoppers at 785-234- 0007, Monasmith said. They can also be made online at www.p3tips.com/128.
