Auto racing: Duluth's Lofdahl among first-time winners at Proctor

Jul. 19—PROCTOR, Minn. — Donnie Lofdahl started on the outside pole position and took advantage of it, going on to win the 20-lap Modified feature as part of "Jam the Stands Night" Sunday, July 17, at Halvor Lines Speedway.

Fans came out in droves for the free grandstand admission and a good night of weather for racing.

It was the first Modified feature win for Lofdahl, the veteran Duluth driver and track maintenance man. It was also a clean sweep as he won his heat on a night to remember.

Local stalwart Darrell Nelson of Hermantown made a late pass to get by up-and-coming Modified rookie Jack Rivord for second. Nelson also won the 25-lap Late Model feature.

Lofdahl wasn't the only first-timer Sunday as David Simpson of Thunder Bay won in Midwest Modifieds for his first feature win at the speedway and sixth win of the season. Simpson also earned the sweep by winning his heat, as did A.J. House of Cloquet in Hornets.

Matt Deragon of Ashland was a first-time winner in Super Stocks while Cory Jorgensen of Duluth took top honors in Pure Stocks for his 15th feature win of the season.

The Northern Vintage Stockcar Racers also made a special appearance with Brian Vang of Deerwood, Minnesota, winning in Modifieds and Bobby "The Rage" LePage, former snocross standout, rekindling old glory by winning in the Full Body division.
