Simon Pagenaud won the pole for the race last weekend, but Ed Carpenter Racing dominated qualifying, with Ed Carpenter, Spencer Pigot and Ed Jones taking the next three spots on the 33-car grid. ... Will Power of Team Penske won the race last year. ... American Josef Newgarden leads the standings with 182 points, followed by New Zealand's Scott Dixon (176), American Alexander Rossi (146), Pagenaud (138) and Japan's Takuma Sato (132) rounding out the top five.

Monaco is considered one of the races making up the Triple Crown, with the Indianapolis 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans the other two. ... Englishman Graham Hill is the only driver to have won this Triple Crown, and "Mr. Monaco" was a five-time winner in Monte Carlo, tied with Michael Schumacher for second all time.
