Automated car wash proposed for Route 1 in Edison
EDISON – An automated car wash and detailing business is looking to open on Route 1 which is already home to several auto dealers.
Ballymere Capital LLC, known as Team Carwash. is seeking township Planning Board approval to construct a one-story, 2,884-square-foot building in the middle portion of the site at 801 Route 1 southbound in a General Business Highway Zone, according to a public notice.
The Planning Board public hearing on the proposal is scheduled for 7 p.m. Dec. 19.
The approximately 1.5-acre site also contains a 41.65-foot LED billboard approved in 2019.

Ballymere Capital is seeking a variance for minimum lot depth where 125 feet is required and 40.4 feet exists and a parking variance because 15 spaces are required and 12 are planned, nine of which are vacuum stalls.
Variances and waivers also are being sought for the minimum setback for freestanding signs, the number of street trees since there is a wooded area on the site and buffering that requires fencing and landscaping.
