New automotive club coming to Howell: What to know
It's a car thing.
Ever dreamed of being able to spend a weekend with just you and your fancy ride? Poof. That dream just came true. Michigan is getting a 273-acre automotive club.
Motorsports Gateway Howell starts construction Jan. 9, according to a news release. The location is 1 mile from downtown Howell, and it fronts the north side of Interstate 96 and to the east of Highway D19.
Phase 1 of construction will include a 2.2-mile performance driving circuit, paddock, members clubhouse, track-fronting private garage condos and a public nature trail. Two additional phases include an automotive innovation park and a mixed-use entertainment zone.
Car enthusiasts won't have to wait too long to visit. The first section of the driving circuit is expected to be up and ready by summer.
"Our project wouldn't be possible without the support of Howell and its city officials," said Jordan Dick, co-founder and CEO, in a written statement. "Our team is happy to move this project forward and help grow the automotive enthusiast community for the Detroit metropolitan area."
Dick is the founder of JD Racing Indoor Karting in Novi but recently sold that to focus on this new venture with his father, Mark.
City officials said they were quite impressed with the idea.
"Since Jordan and Mark first approached the city with their vision, there has been nonstop momentum and excitement to bring this incredible asset to fruition," City Manager Erv Suida said in a written statement.
Membership
Motorsports Gateway will sell 150 memberships. Drivers Club Members initiation fee begins at $35,000 with $7,500 annual dues. The corporate initiation fee is $390,000 with annual dues of $90,000.
Driving circuit
The driving circuit will be constructed following Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile safety standards. The route follows the natural elevation changes and forested contours of the land.
