PEORIA – A man killed in a fatal hit-and-run collision on Plank Road early New Year's Day has been identified as Caleb R. Charlson.

The 40-year-old Charlson, who lived on Joan Court in Peoria, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood in a news release.

Sheriff’s deputies and the Limestone Fire Department responded to the 7600 block of West Plank Road at 5:40 a.m. Saturday morning where they found Charlson dead in the roadway. He had injuries "consistent with being struck by a vehicle," officials have said.

No other details have been released regarding the accident. There is no vehicle information. There should be damage to the suspect vehicle, so detectives are anyone who noticed a car that suffered damage early on Saturday to call the sheriff's department.

An autopsy for Charlson has been scheduled for Monday, Harwood said.
