The death of a Texas woman killed in an electric scooter crash in downtown Nashville last fall has been ruled an accident by the Davidson County Medical Examiner.

Melinda Faye Lovelady, 56, died as a result of blunt force trauma after falling from her Lime scooter and being struck by a semi, Davidson County Assistant Medical Examiner Gulpreet Singh Bowman wrote in his Oct. 4 autopsy report.

The four-page report released over the weekend goes on to read Lovelady suffered major neck and head trauma including bleeding on the brain as well as multiple broken bones.

Bowman determined her manner of death was an accident.

Lovelady, who lived in Flint, Texas, died just after 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 3 after losing control of the scooter she rode north on Third Avenue South near Symphony Place.

While driving single-file with three other scooter riders, she began to swerve in the roadway, crossed into the southbound lane and collided with the rear tires of the semi, a Metro Nashville Police Department investigation found.

No one else was injured.

At the time of the crash, police said there were no indications of alcohol involvement at the scene.

A toxicology test conducted by the medical examiner showed her blood alcohol content registered 0.07 — under the legal limit of 0.08 to drive.

The driver of the semi was not charged.
