Autopsy scheduled for young girl pulled from public pool Friday in Tinley Park, officials say

An autopsy was scheduled Saturday for a 5-year-old girl who was found unresponsive Friday at a public pool in south suburban Tinley Park, according to the Will County coroner’s office.

Officials reported the death of a juvenile girl who was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m. Friday at Silver Cross Hospital. The Tinley Park police Department was investigating the death, officials said.

The Tinley Park Fire Department responded Friday, at 3:53 p.m. to a call of a full cardiac arrest at White Water Canyon Water Park, 8221 W. 171st St., Tinley Park.

Paramedics found lifeguards performing life support on a 5-year-old girl who was unresponsive after being pulled from the pool.

The girl was transported to Sliver Cross Hospital in New Lenox, where she was pronounced dead.

The cause and manner of death will be determined after police, autopsy and toxicological reports are completed, officials said.

In a statement Saturday, village officials extended sympathies to the family of the 5-year-old girl, calling it a drowning incident.

“It is truly heartbreaking, and the Village grieves alongside the entire Tinley Park community,” the statement read. “Sincere condolences also go out to all of the first responders and Tinley Park Park District lifeguards and staff who were present and have been deeply affected by the tragedy.”
