May 2—Former volleyball standout Autumn Kanda has been inducted into the Centralia College Hall of Fame.
Kanda, formerly Autumn Durand, was "exceptional" for the college team from 2017 to 2018, according to a news release from Centralia College.
Kanda's time on the team was described by the college as "truly remarkable."
"Her leadership and dedication helped lead the team to victory, as she led in kills per set, kill percentage and total kills both seasons at CC," according to the release. "Autumn's outstanding talent did not go unnoticed, as she was ranked second in the region with 4.03 kills per set and fourth in the region with 367 kills. Her impressive achievements earned her recognition as a four-time Regional Player of the Week, two-time NWAC Player of the Week and NWAC Volleyball First Team."
Kanda also received the Coaches Award-MVP and competed in the Sophomore All-Star Match. In addition, she served as an assistant coach at Pierce Community College for the women's volleyball team from 2019 to 2020.
After graduating from Onalaska High School, Durand played basketball for Southern Oregon University for four years. She was an All-Cascade Conference player in 2015-16 and a NAIA All-American second team and Cascade Conference Player of the Year in 2016-17.
She remains SOU's third all-time leading scorer with 1,582 points, sixth all-time leading rebounder with 794 and 12th on the assist list with 267.
She then returned to Lewis County to continue her studies, where she attended Centralia College and joined the Blazer volleyball team.
"We are honored to recognize Autumn's hard work and dedication to CC Athletics," the college wrote in the release. "Please join us in congratulating Autumn Kanda as the Hall of Fame inductee for 2023! We are proud to recognize Autumn's accomplishments and welcome her into Centralia College's Hall of Fame."
Kanda is currently a firefighter with the Port of Seattle Fire Department and a volunteer volleyball coach at Olympia High School. She lives in Olympia.
The formal induction ceremony will be held from 2 to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, in the foyer of the Michael Smith Gymnasium during Centralia College's home baseball game against Olympic College.
Kanda attended school in Onalaska.
