Avalanche warning issued near Steamboat Springs

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (KREX) — An avalanche warning is in effect for the Park Range through Saturday, per the Colorado Avalanche and Information Center.

Heavy snow is forecasted in the region through Saturday.

Avalanches will break wide across terrain features and run long distances. Many will run naturally. Travel in, near, or undrer avalanche terrain is not recommended Friday morning through Saturday night.

A backcountry snowmobiler was caught and buried in an avalanche on the Grand Mesa on Feb. 12, but survived after her friends pulled off what CAIC officials called a “very impressive rescue.”
