The wait is over for fans of Avalon International Breads.

The iconic Detroit brand announced Monday that they will open Avalon Canfield in Midtown on Wednesday.

About a block away from its former flagship location, which stood for 25 years before shuttering in January, Avalon’s new location is in a shared space with Jolly Pumpkin restaurant.

All day long Wednesday, Avalon’s famed sea salt chocolate chip cookies will be in the spotlight. The cookies will be 25 cents each (regularly $2.25) with a purchase. There’s a limit of two cookies per customer purchase.

Jackie Victor, co-founder of Avalon International Breads announced the flagship location on Willis Street, which opened in 1997, announced that it would shutter in early January.  After a monthlong pause, Avalon’s operations, though with a smaller footprint,  would open in the new place at 411 W. Canfield.

A changing Midtown neighborhood, the condition of the building, and economic factors went into the decision to close the flagship location, Victor wrote in a Facebook post.

Avalon operates outposts in Meijer’s small format stores in Royal Oak’s Woodward Corner Market and Rivertown Market in Detroit. There’s also a location on Woodward Avenue in downtown Detroit and one in Ann Arbor. A location in New Center on West Grand Boulevard shuttered during the pandemic and did not reopen.

Avalon Canfield will be open 7 .m.-3 p.m. Mon.-Sat. and 8 a.m-3 p.m. Sun.
