'Avatar' star Sigourney Weaver to headline ArtsRock's April gala

NYACK − She is the darling of science-fiction fans who know her from the "Avatar" and "Alien" franchises. She played on that adulation, for laughs, in the science-fiction send-up "Galaxy Quest." But it's fact, not fiction, that Sigourney Weaver is planning a trip to Rockland next spring, to help ArtsRock mark a milestone.
The actress will be the guest of honor on April 6, when the arts producing group marks its 15th anniversary of presenting more than 100 cultural events and conversations in Rockland County. Weaver will sit down with producer Elliott Forrest at First Reformed Church of Nyack to talk about her life and career as part of a Fundraising Gala.
They won't lack for topics to discuss.
Weaver is a three-time Oscar nominee ("Aliens," "Gorillas in the Mist," "Working Girl"), a seven-time Golden Globe nominee (she won twice, for "Gorillas in the Mist" and "Working Girl"), a Grammy winner (for Spoken Word Album, "Earth (The Book)"), and a Tony nominee for "Hurlyburly."
And Weaver's roles haven't all been science fiction. She played June Hart in the dark Amazon drama series "The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart," and was in Paul Schrader's 2022 film, "Master Gardener." She was last on Broadway in "Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike" a decade ago.
Oh, and there's that who-you-gonna-call movie, which might generate a question or two.
