Avelo Airlines announces new nonstop flights from Fort Myers to Binghamton, New York

Avelo Airlines has announced another new route from Fort Myers.

The Houston-based carrier said Wednesday that it plans to offer nonstop flights from Southwest Florida International Airport to Binghamton, New York, beginning Nov. 16.

Last week, Avelo announced new routes at RSW to Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, beginning Nov. 10 and Kalamazoo and Lansing, Michigan, beginning Nov. 11.

The Binghamton routes will operate twice weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays on Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. That brings Avelo’s total number of cities from RSW to five, with the other being Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport.

The four new routes (Binghamton, Kalamazoo, Lansing and Raleigh-Durham) are seasonal for now, said Courtney Goff, Avelo Airlines communications manager, in an email to The News-Press.

"We are only booking through the end of April now and will likely extend through early summer," she said. "Pending the demand these could turn to year-round routes."

Avelo considers itself an "ultra, low-cost carrier" (or ULCC in airline lingo), meaning it operates with a low-cost business model so customers get tickets at a much lower price but there's more add-on fees. Other ULCC airlines include Spirit Airlines and Allegiant Air.
