Avengers: Endgame screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus have revealed that the film almost incorporated a major X-Men storyline.

Titled The House of M, the Marvel Comics entry was published back in 2005 and concerns a new reality moulded by Scarlet Witch where mutants like Magneto control the world. Here, the Avengers and X-Men must combine their powers and set reality back to normal.

This was all present in the pre-Infinity War and Endgame brainstorming sessions, with Marvel's acquisition of 21st Century Fox still years away from materialising – meaning that the mutant superheroes would have never legally been allowed to appear in the writers' cinematic plans

However, The Hollywood Reporter also states that McFeely would potentially be up for adapting the comic further down the line, as he declared: "I think House of M would be awesome. But you've got to earn it."

Meanwhile, Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently discussed when Wolverine and his mutant pals will finally join the MCU.

"It'll be a while," he admitted. "It's all just beginning and the five-year plan that we've been working on, we were working on before any of that was set."

Feige then added: "So really it's much more, for us, less about specifics of when and where right now and more just the comfort factor and how nice it is that they're home. That they're all back. But it will be a very long time."

Avengers: Endgame is out now.
