Avid Hotel to replace Scottish Inns and Suites on Bristol Pike in Bensalem

Developers are hoping to attract business travelers looking for a no-frills overnighter or weekend stay to the new Avid Hotel they want to build at 4000 Bristol Pike near the intersection with Totem Road in Bensalem.

It would replace the current single-story, twenty-room Scottish Inns and Suites, which would be demolished.

The new hotel will have three floors and 75 rooms, said attorney Allen W. Toadvine of Begley, Carlin & Mandio, LLP.

"This will be marketed as a hotel for the business traveller. The reason I say that is because the room sizes that are proposed are slightly smaller than the room sizes of a typical or average hotel," Toadvine said. "There is no restaurant proposed, there is no bar proposed, and the only food that will be served at this location will be a continental breakfast without the need for any cooking facilities."

The hotel would have a pool, gym and a "small pantry area," Toadvine added. There would not be a conference room.

There would be 15 rooms on the first floor, and 30 on the second and third, with no suites. Each room would measure 225 square feet.

Avid is one of the hotels in the portfolio of IHG Hotel and Resorts, which also includes Regent, Crown Plaza, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Atwell Suites. It would be the brands first in Bucks County. It's Lancaster property in central Pennsylvania offers rooms for about $190 a night, according to its website.

To jumpstart the project, Toadvine briefed Bensalem Township Council at its October meeting, during which it also sought several variances.

Council granted developer Sri Gyatri Corporation preliminary and final land development approval, after Toadvine satisfied council's questions on rainwater management and perimeter security.
