Avon, Granby repeat as boys state tennis champions

The top-seeded Avon boys tennis team won its second straight state championship in Class M with a 6-1 victory over Joel Barlow Saturday at Wesleyan, while the second-seeded Granby boys won their second consecutive Class S championship, 7-0, over Shepaug Valley.

On the girls side, Newington lost to Guilford 6-1 in the Class L championship and 15th-seeded Hand lost to top-seeded Stonington 6-1 in the Class M championship.

Old Lyme beat Westbrook 4-3 to win the Class S girls title.
