Back in April, Avril Lavigne revealed that she’d been suffering from Lyme Disease since last year, after being bitten by a tick.

Now, the singer has bravely opened up about how the awful disease affected her, how she’s recovering and how she feels like she’s been given a “second shot at life.”

In an emotional interview about the debilitating disease on Good Morning America, the 30-year-old, who “literally became bedridden last October,” revealed it took her a frustrating two months to get diagnosed, as doctors and health professionals continued to misdiagnose her.

She explained: “They would pull up their computer and be like, ‘Chronic fatigue syndrome’. Or, ‘Why don’t you try to get out of bed, Avril, and just go play the piano?’

“It’s like, ‘Are you depressed?’ This went on and off for a month.”

Luckily, Avril DID eventually make some progress, admitting: “I saw my doctor right away, got blood tests, got swabbed, and they didn’t really know what was wrong with me.

“I started going to other doctors and specifically telling them and asking, ‘I have Lyme disease. I know I do. Can you check me?’ Then I finally figured out, ‘Find a Lyme specialist’.”

Eight months later, she found a specialist who knew “the disease inside and out” and diagnosis was made.

Updating us on her progress, she continued: “I’m about halfway through my treatment. I’m doing a lot better. Seeing a lot of progress. … I’m just really grateful to know that, like, I will make [a] 100 percent recovery.”

During the interview, in which Avril broke down in tears as she recalled the whole terrifying experience, she revealed that it was the support from fans that kept her going through the battle.

She added: “I sat there in my bed and I watched the [fan created] videos and did exactly what I’m doing now. I cried through the whole thing.

“Honestly, I felt very, very loved. And it sounds silly saying it, but I really truly did feel my fans through the process.“

Don’t feel silly, love.

Avril went on to open up about why she chose to share her diagnosis and Lyme Disease battle with the world, revealing that she hopes her story can help others suffering with the disease.

She said: “There is hope. Lyme disease does exist. And you can get better.

“This is my second shot at life. I really just want to go out there and truly do what I love. So I’m so excited for life after this.”

We’re wishing Avril a speedy full recovery and hope that her experience does indeed help others.
