Award-winning author to deliver lecture at Susquehanna

Mar. 15—An award-winning author, voice actor and editor of Catapult Magazine will speak at Susquehanna University on March 30.

Tajja Isen will discuss her experience working in the digital publishing field as part of the university's annual Publishing and Editing Lecture series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in Faylor Lecture Hall in Fisher Hall.

The event is free and open to the public.

Isen is the author of "Some of My Best Friends: Essays on Lip Service," named a Best Book of the Year by Electric Literature, The Globe and Mail, CBC Books and the Daily Hive. She is the co-editor of the anthology "The World as We Knew It: Dispatches from a Changing Climate."

As a voice actor, Isen has worked on shows such as "Atomic Betty," "The Berenstain Bears," and "Go Dog Go."

The purpose of the annual Publishing & Editing Lecture is to address and explore the current technologies, cultures and politics shaping the future of all sectors of the industry — trade, independent, university and educational — as well as retail, wholesale and nonprofit distributors.

DNA sample IDs suspect in theft of firearm

A 40 year-old Palmerton man has been charged with a felony for theft from a motor vehicle. According to a police complaint, the theft took place on Dec. 25, 2017.

The accused, Christopher Step Ruckle, of 10 S. 2nd St., Palmerton allegedly stole a firearm and other items, police said. This occurred overnight on Dec. 25, 2017 at 15 and 20 Valley West Road, Valley Township, Montour County.

Ruckle was identified using DNA taken from a blood sample left in the vehicle. A preliminary hearing is set for today at 12:15 at the Montour County Courthouse.

Registration open for juried photo contest

The Shutterbugs will award more than $1,500 in prize money in recognition of the photographic excellence of the top entries in its annual photo contest. All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges with recognized expertise in photography and fine art. Judges awards will be presented at the reception. Best in Show, $500; first place, $400; second place, $300; third place, $200; honorable mention, $50; judge's choice (one per judge — three ribbons), $50 each.

Registration opens April 1. All registration of entries is done online. No registration will be available at drop off. Registration cut-off is midnight, Friday, April 21. Selected photographs will be exhibited at the Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historic Society from May 1 to May 27. The show opens with a wine and cheese reception at 6 p.m. May 5.

The competition is open to the public and all amateur and professional photographers. You may submit up to four prints (color and/or black and white). A non-refundable entry fee of $10 for SVS members, $25 for non-members, and half off for students, per photograph, must accompany each entry. Membership is an annual fee of $36. The Susquehanna Valley Shutterbugs meet at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month at the Thomas T. Tabor Museum, 858 W. Fourth St., Williamsport.
