ACADEMIC DISTINCTION

Stephen White, a music major from Mebane, made the Dean’s List at Cedarville University.

Kelsia Moore, an exercise and sport science major from Burlington, made the spring Dean’s List at Coastal Carolina University.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Alex Pardue, a senior at Walter Williams High School, has won a Colonel Robinson Scholarship and will attend UNC-Chapel Hill in the fall.

Nelson Brooks of Graham, going to N.C. A&T State University, is among 30 North Carolina students to receive State Fair Youth Livestock Scholarships.

Recipients of Alamance Arts scholarships are:

Sally Newcomb of Rivermill Academy, James Wilson Scholarship. She plans to attend Appalachian State University;

Jamarius Wall of Graham High School, Sarah H. Rhyne Scholarship for the Performing Arts. He plans to attend Catawba University;

Tessa Wells of Williams High School, Hazel C. Sellers Scholarship for Visual Arts. She plans to attend Lees-McRae College;

Andrea Hunnicutt of Williams High School, Janet Rhyne Andrews Scholarship. She plans to attend N.C. State University; and

Catherine Wiggins of Williams High School, A. &. J. Johansen Scholarship for Literary Arts. She plans to attend Sweet Briar College.

PAGEANT

Darlene Benesch of Graham was second runner-up in the Ms. North Carolina Senior America Pageant. The pageant was Saturday, May 18, at the Sunrise Theater in Southern Pines. Mae Timmons Moore of Pfafftown was crowned Ms. North Carolina Senior America 2019, and admission proceeds will sponsor her in October at the National Pageant in Atlantic City, N.J. Margie Flowers of Whiteville was first runner-up, and Nancy Estep of Lexington was third runner-up.

WOMAN OF THE YEAR

Linda Moore of Graham is Alamance Women’s Community’s Woman of the Year. The award recognizes Moore’s service to the organization. She was its treasurer and served on the Special Projects and Communications committees. Moore has been a member since 2008 and has served on the board continuously. Moore retired from Capital Bank in 2014, is a deacon at the First Baptist Church of Graham, and volunteers at the church’s Starfish Ministry.
