Awkwafina’s rise to fame has been speedy, hilarious and — most of all — well-deserved. The actress and comedian has appeared in multiple blockbuster films including Crazy Rich Asians, The Farewell and Ocean’s 8. And now, she’s starring alongside The Rock and Nick Jonas in Jumanji: The Next Level.

In addition to being a stellar comedian, Awkwafina also constantly slays the fashion game, so it’s no surprise that we were obsessed with her look from the Jumanji: The Next Level premiere on Monday night. Awkwafina’s pink dress was completed by a stunning floral print that we loved. And she made sure her hair was on point for the evening, turning to Suave Celeb Stylist Marcus Francis.

“Awkwafina is very supportive and trusting,” Marcus told Teen Vogue exclusively. “She communicates what she likes very well which helps me because being clear is the best thing for when I’m creating a hairstyle on a client.”

In terms of finding inspiration for Awkwafina’s hairstyle for the evening, Marcus looked no further than the star’s very own dress. “Her dress had a flowy, very chic London ‘70s vibe to it. I wanted her hair to play off that in the way that Awkwafina’s style is also very cool and effortless,” he explained.

Marcus’ first step was to use the Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Shine Shampoo and Conditioner to add an extra layer of gloss and shine to her hair. Then, he used the Suave Professionals Firm Control Boosting Mousse and SachaJuan Root Lift for her roots.

After that, he blew dried her hair before using a curling iron to add more texture to the look. And to finish it all off, Marcus used the Sleek Anti-Frizz Smooth & Shine Cream and Suave Professionals Flexible Control Hairspray.

“[The key is] making sure you use enough product on the hair from the roots to the ends. Not so much from the hairspray, as that just finishes and cleans up the final look, but more so in the thickening spray and mousse,” Marcus explains.

If you’re looking to recreate this look at home, Marcus suggests this vital tip: “Use a large barrel curling iron, about 1 - 1 1/4” size. If it comes out too tight of curl or wave, take the iron to stretch it out so it’s a subtle moment in the texture.”

Clearly, the amount of work Marcus put into Awkwafina’s hair paid off as she looked iconic while walking the red carpet. Now, time to give this lewk a try at home!
