AZ Cardlinals' Larry Fitzgerald Out With The Coronavirus

PHOENIX — The face of the Arizona Cardinals franchise will miss his first game in six years after testing positive for the coronavirus.

Larry Fitzgerald was added to the team's COVID-19 reserve list Thursday, along with wide receiver Trent Sherfield, according to a news release. Safety Deionte Thompson had already been put on the COVID list earlier this week. All three will miss Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.

"We're clearly not out of the water with the way it's going but to be able to come here and do the work that we're doing and be around the men we're around and have family and friends be healthy (is good)," Fitzgerald told reporters Wednesday. "We know a lot of Americans have suffered over these last few months and our thoughts and prayers are with them as a team and an organization and I just hope everyone has a wonderful holiday."

37-year-old Fitzgerald has played for the Cardinals since he was drafted in 2004.

In addition to the coronavirus, injuries have been prevalent on the team. DeAndre Hopkins, who pulled off a 'Hail Mary' catch Nov. 15 that gave the Cardinals a win against the Buffalo Bills, will play after being out for several days with an injury or illness. Quarterback Kyler Murray was listed on Thursday's injury report as 'limited' but will likely still play on Sunday.

The Cardinals currently have a 6-4 record, most recently losing to the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 19.
