B.C. to be battered by heavy rain, high winds
The coastal regions of British Columbia will be experiencing the heavy rains and winds that have battered California in recent days as the culprit low pressure system continues to track north.
The west side of Vancouver Island can expect to see upwards of 100 mm of rain over the next three days, while the Lower Mainland will see closer to 10-40 mm.
The biggest threat with this system, however, is the wind impact.
Winds will pick up by Thursday afternoon for the Sunshine Coast and the coastal regions of Vancouver Island, seeing possible gusts of 70-90 km/h. The western side of the island will experience the strongest of these gusts.
In metro Vancouver, the strongest wind gusts will be along the shorelines of Delta and Tsawwassen, with gusts up to 70 km/h. Winds will decrease further inland.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued wind warnings for southern coastal B.C.
"Loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage," says ECCC in the warning. "High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches."
The wind gusts are expected to peak Thursday evening before dying off Friday morning.
