Norwegian biathlon star Johannes Thingnes Bø does not expect a similar historic medal haul as last year at the upcoming world championships in the Czech Republic.

"I don't think that I can repeat this performance," Bø told the idnes.cz website in the run-up to the championships starting on Wednesday in Nove Mesto.

Bø became the first man to medal in all seven events at last year's worlds in Oberhof, Germany. He won five golds in the 20km, sprint, pursuit, mixed relay and single mixed relay, plus men's relay silver and mass start bronze.

The 17-time world and five-time Olympic champion said he was "in much better shape" last season than this term where he suffered several setbacks in the pre-season and also started training later than usual due to the birth of his second child.

Bø has missed the podium in seven races but has four season wins and other top results to lead the World Cup where he is seeking a fifth title.

"I believe I will be in better shape in February. Hopefully the end of the season will be better for me than the start of it," he said.

But Bø nonetheless hopes to win "a few medals" at the February 7-18 worlds, saying: "When I go the the worlds I obviously want to be successful."
