B-R grad's Scooby Doo food truck serves smash burgers, Mozambique tacos, fried cheesecake

LAKEVILLE — A local Scooby Doo inspired food truck business is serving up chicken Mozambique tacos, smash burgers, lettuce wraps and a twist on your favorite meals.

Augie's Food Truck, located at 13 Harding St. Lakeville, is one truck you won't miss. It's a kid's childhood dream, from the bright green and blue paint job to the large flowers.

With the weekly specials of something new and hand-stuffed birria tacos, Augie's Food Truck might be a new place to try.

The owner Austin Bickford, 27, of Raynham, is paying homage to a family member who died as a child. They shared a profound love for Shaggy and Scooby Doo. From Tuesday to Saturday, his "Mystery Machine" is parked behind Muckey's Liquor store.

Before owning a food truck, Bickford experimented with cooking during COVID-19 and posted the results on social media. The growing popularity created a fan base who were hungry and eager to try his creations.

The a Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School graduate thought to himself, "Maybe I could sell plates from home." So, he did a test run with close friends and family and made over $200. To the young business owner, he knew food could be his ticket to a fresh start.

The new life-altering realization jumpstarted Bickford's investment into his new career.

"I've never owned a business before, so I had to learn everything from scratch and the help of a few friends," Bickford said.

Bickford's lack of knowledge of his newfound business venture did not deter him but motivated him to grind harder.

"I wanted to create a menu that no one else had," Bickford said.

Quit his job to chase his dream

Bickford gave up everything to start this business.

"I quit my job and just chased my dream. Once I gained traction from social media, I continued with it. I'm a pretty nice guy, and many people supported me when I first started," Bickford said.

Throughout the years, he's learned much about the restaurant business and wouldn't change his journey for the world.

"I'm a big advocate for passion and following it. There's something so rewarding about setting a goal and accomplishing it. I don't care how much money I make on the truck. I genuinely love what I'm doing, and watching people eat my food and telling me how much they love it makes all the stress worth it," Bickford said.
