B-R, ND tennis falls at Jasper
May 24—JASPER — Both the Barr-Reeve Viking and North Daviess tennis teams were eliminated at Jasper's Ed Yarbrough Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The Vikings (13-6) lost 3-2 to South Knox (20-0) and ND lost 5-0 to host Jasper.
B-R got wins from Beth Graber, who beat Alli Hayden, 7-5 and 6-1 at No. 2, while the No. 2 doubles team of Alli Robinson and Claire Harrison, won 5-7, 6-3 and 6-3 over Anna Provines and Graceanna Cramer.
Losses came at No. 1 singles as Brylee Fuhrman fell to Abi Cunningham, 2 and 0, while Brynlee Rollins lost to Grace Arnold, 1 and 2.
The senior doubles team of Sydney Swartzentruber and Dylan DeCoursey lost to Caroline Beard and Grace Carie, 3 and 4.
"A tough loss to a very good South Knox team. Beth Graber avenged a loss from a few weeks ago with a nice win at No. 2 singles. Our No.2 doubles team of Claire Harrison and Alli Robinson also pulled out a close three set match win. Our No.1 doubles team of Dylan DeCoursey and Sydney Swartzentruber had their careers come to an end with a tough loss. I couldn't be prouder of them and this team. They've had tremendous success and represented BR very well," said B-R coach Tim Swartzentruber.
The Cougars (18-7) lost 5-0 to powerhouse Jasper (19-0).
At No. 1, Cougar Reagan Knepp lost 0 and 0 to Harper Wigand. Amaya McBride lost 6-0 and 6-1 to Reese Mundy, and Emma Sargent lost 0 and 0 to Ally Wigand.
In doubles action, Gracelynn Byrer and Elaina Morgan lost 0 and 1 to Allie Schnarr and Brailyn Whaley, while Bella Laughlin and Meah Dalrymple lost 0 and 0 to Jasper's Paige Giesler and Brynne Brosmer.
The 18 wins was a school record for the Cougars, who graduate five seniors.
South Knox will now play Jasper in the finals. Neither ND or B-R had anyone advance into the individual singles or doubles tourney.
