WORCESTER – A local developer will appear in front of the Planning Board this week with a blueprint for a five-floor apartment building on Shrewsbury Street.

Wei Dong Wang, the owner of Baba Sushi on Park Avenue, plans to redevelop a property at 393-397 Shrewsbury St. with a 24-unit apartment building, according to plans.

Wang’s holding company, 318 Park LLC, has a plan for 16 one-bedroom apartments and eight two-bedroom units. Two units would be handicap accessible.

“Gear(ed) primarily to professionals," the apartments would range from 800 to 1,440 square feet, according to the application.

Plans show that Wang is looking to also build 25 existing parking spaces for tenant use.

With a 2,400-square-foot footprint, the building’s first floor would be used for commercial purposes, while the apartments would spread out on the top four floors.

Wang purchased the 18,500-square-foot property in December 2021 for a total of $895,000 under 318 Park LLC.

A three-decker currently on the property at 397 Shrewsbury St. dates to 1920. It would be razed.

The project will appear in front of the Planning Board Wednesday.

Known for his entrepreneurial ventures, Wang owns property across the county. He also owns the three other locations of Baba Sushi in Sturbridge, Bristol and Bolton.
