Baby Animals at Strawbery Banke this week

PORTSMOUTH - The 5th annual Baby Animals: Heritage Breeds at the Banke, Strawbery Banke’s spring event showcasing heritage-breed barnyard animals, takes place daily, rain or shine, from Saturday, April 23 through Sunday, May 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., under a heated tent. At this family-friendly educational event, guests visit with and learn about domestic livestock typically found on coastal northern New England farms from the 17th century to the present day. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children aged 3-17. Admission for children under three is free. Museum members receive free or discounted admission. Free training on firestopping concepts and codes

PORTSMOUTH – Portsmouth Inspections Department is hosting a free training session on Wednesday, April 27, on Firestopping Concepts, Codes and Systems in building construction. Intended for contractors, developers, code officials and residents, the session takes place in City Hall Council Chambers and via Zoom from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. (check-in starts at 8 a.m.). BERWICK, Maine — The Noble High School Theater Department will present "Macabaret, the Musical; An Evening of Gallows Humor, Song and Dance!" by Scott Keys and Robert Hartmann. Show dates are Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance on our website and $12 at the door. Performances will take place in the Philip W Hussey Theater at Noble High School located at 100 Noble Way, North Berwick, Maine 03906. Discussion of sustainability and its history at Dover library

DOVER — What is sustainability? And how has American literature shaped our understanding of this concept, in ways both surprising and disturbing?

There'll be an interactive program about sustainability on Thursday, April 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Dover Public Library. The session will begin with a discussion of current ideas about sustainability. Then, attendees will go back in time to examine Thomas Jefferson's vision of American agricultural abundance and how it lead to thoughts about selective breeding and racial "improvement". DOVER — Does your child enjoy tinkering? Inventing? Building and creating? Join UNH students Friday, April 29, at 3:30 p.m. for a Loose Parts Play Day at Dover Public Library where they can let their imaginations run wild using open ended materials, and even take home their creations. No advance registration required.

Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals this Saturday

RYE — The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals, held Saturday, April 30 at 9 a.m. at the Seacoast Science Center features a 5k chip-timed trail race and untimed walk to benefit the Center’s Marine Mammal Rescue program.

The first 150 5K registrants receive an official wick-wear race T-shirt; additional shirts are available for purchase for $15 when you register. A limited number will be for sale on race day. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest male and female overall times, as well as top finishers in gender and age categories and best ocean-themed costume.

The Kid’s Fun Run features a 300-yard dash and a half-mile run for children ages 12 and under. Every child that participates in the Fun Run wins a prize. Dogs are not allowed in Odiorne Point State Park and strollers are not permitted on the 5K trail. Children, ages 12 and under, must be accompanied by an adult on the 5K.
