Archie is already following in his parents' philanthropic footsteps, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently made a secret charity donation in their son's name.

The royal couple donated £4,350 to the building of a swimming pool in Guinjata Bay, Mozambique, which sees an average of 12 drownings every year, in order to help teach local children how to swim.

Adam Knight, a swim coach and partner with non-profit marine conservation organisation Love the Oceans, kickstarted the JustGiving campaign in order to achieve his goal of teaching 200 children to swim while out in Guinjata Bay.

After running the fundraising project for over a month, Knight was still £4,350 short of his £5,000 target. That was until a mysterious donation was given under the name 'Archie HMW' - leading him to question whether it came from Kensington Palace.

"I said to my colleague, 'That has to be Harry and Meghan'," Knight told Harper's Bazaar. "We made some calls and were able to verify that it was from them, which is just incredible. Without that donation and support this would not be happening."

The Sussexes first shared their support for Love the Oceans via Instagram back in August as part of their monthly social awareness initiative.

"Many of you have suggested that we use this month as an opportunity to highlight lesser known organisations and shine a light on those working hard behind the scenes that may not get the level of attention that they so rightly deserve," the couple captioned the post.

"These accounts showcase those persevering at the grassroots level, connecting our global community through a shared lens of giving back and helping one another. We were so happy to learn about them and are now able to share them with you!"

To thank the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for their surprise donation, Love the Oceans has named one of their juvenile whale sharks after the couple's four-month-old son.

"As a thank you we have just named one of our juvenile whale sharks ‘Archie’! Welcome to the Love The Oceans family Archie," the charity wrote on Instagram.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently returned to the UK after celebrating close friend Misha Nonoo and Michael Hess's wedding in Rome.

The family-of-three are now busy preparing for their 10-day royal tour of South Africa which will begin in Cape Town on September 23 with plans to conclude in Johannesburg on 2nd October.
