Baby birds struggle in Spanish heatwave

STORY: Birds are struggling

under Spain's intense heatwave

Experts say they've treated

scores of dehydrated birds

that had fallen out of their nests

LUIS MARTINEZ, SEO BIRDLIFE URBAN BIODIVERSITY TECHICNIAN, SAYING:

“This early and intense heatwave that we are all living through these days, and keeping in mind that it will be more frequent in the future due to climate change. This especially affects birds that are breeding and have their baby birds in nests that are exposed to very high temperatures. And many of those birds that live in small holes that reach very high temperatures will die scorched or will have to jump out of the nest before they are ready and fall on the ground. These are the birds we find on the floor when we walk through our city streets."

Spain is experiencing the

earliest heatwave in over 40 years

Temperatures were above 104 degrees

in many parts of the country
