Baby critically injured in Monticello shooting; man and woman taken to hospital

A Friday night shooting in the village of Monticello left a baby boy in critical but stable condition and sent a man and woman to a hospital.

Monticello police said the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. Friday at a house on Holmes Street.

According to police, officers who responded to a 911 report of shots fired arrived to find a 27-year-old man, a 20-year-old woman and a 15-month-old baby boy had been shot.

The baby was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where he was listed in critical but stable condition as of Saturday morning.

The man and woman were taken by ambulance to Garnet Health Medical Center in Middletown, where the woman was treated and released and the man was listed in stable condition as of Saturday morning.

Police did not identify the shooting victims or say what their relationships to one another are.

Police said a preliminary investigation showed that multiple rounds appeared to have been intentionally fired into the residence from outside.

No suspects have been identified.

State police are working in conjunction with Monticello police on the investigation. Anyone with information about the shootings is asked to call Monticello police at 845-794-4422. All calls will be kept confidential.

Sullivan County's District Attorney's and Sheriff's Offices are assisting with the investigation.
