Bach to Broadway coming to Secrest

ZANESVILLE − The Thursday Music Club will present Bach to Broadway at 7:30 p.m. May 6 at Secrest Auditorium, 334 Shinnick St. Doors open at 7 p.m.

The concert will showcase th talents of youth and adults of the Zanesville and Muskingum County community. It's the 113th year for the music club to offer free public concerts.

Nearly 60 local musicians will perform during the concert. Featured performers are Bill Barrett, Nate Terry and the Civic Chorus Chamber Singers. Summer Music Camp Scholarship winners performing are pianist Truett Howell and vocalist Josiah Gross. Several youth from the Junior Music Club will also perform.

Barrett resides in Redondo Beach, California. He was born in Zanesville and was valedictorian at Philo High School. He started playing organ at church at age 13. He received scholarships to study music at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music. He received a master of divinity degree from Union Theological Seminary. He works for Barnes & Noble as a front-end web developer for their e-commerce website. He also is a piano teacher.

Terry resides in Columbus. He was born in Zanesville and graduated from John Glenn High School. He started playing church services at Central Trinity United Methodist Church as a youth and accompanied the JohnGlenn high school choirs as well as playing piano for their dramatic presentations. He is a music major graduate from Capital University. He is director of music ministry at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Columbus. He is owner of Major 7 music publishing company which provides music for piano, organ, voice and choral. He often writes commissioned music compositions. He is accompanist and vocal coach at Capital University and accompanist for Capriccio.

The Chamber Singers is a smaller version of the Zanesville Civic Chorus. The chorus is known for its 93 year tradition of performing Handel’s “Messiah” Oratorio each December in Zanesville, one of the oldest choral music traditions inOhio. The Civic Chorus performed “Messiah” in Carnegie Hall in New York City in 2019. Under the direction of Ann Lillie Briggs, the chamber singers offer unique spring choral concerts each year sponsored by the Thursday Music Club. One of their numbers on the Bach to Broadway Concert was especially arranged by Terry.
