Back-to-back crashes lead to death of Little Falls driver on Garden State Parkway

A Little Falls man died in an early morning accident on the Garden State Parkway in Irvington, State Police said.

A Little Falls man involved in a crash on the Garden State Parkway was killed early Saturday when he was struck by another vehicle after he exited his own car, New Jersey State Police said.

Authorities identified the deceased driver as Mark Terpak, 60, and said the accidents occurred about 1:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes by milepost 144.2, near Irvington.

The preliminary investigation indicates Terpak was initially involved in a single-car crash and his vehicle was disabled in the center lane of the highway, said Sgt. Philip Curry, a police spokesman.

Terpak left his vehicle and was struck by another vehicle. Curry did not immediately identify the second driver, but said that person was not injured.

The multiple crashes closed all southbound lanes on the parkway for about four hours on Saturday morning. The incident remains under investigation, Curry said.
