The Central Connecticut men’s basketball team will open conference play with back to back games Dec. 8 and 9 at Fairleigh Dickinson as the Northeast Conference issued an amended regular season basketball schedule and conference tournament format on Monday.

The conference will play back to back games to reduce travel. The Central men will host St. Francis (N.Y.) Dec. 15 and 16, while the women will open their conference schedule at St. Francis Dec. 14-15 and host FDU Dec. 19-20. The teams are scheduled to play 18 conference games.

The Central Connecticut women will open their season Nov. 25 at Quinnipiac, in a game that was announced Monday. The men are likewise supposed to play Nov. 25 against UConn, but the Huskies are quarantined until Thursday due to a positive COVID-19 case, and it’s uncertain if the game will take place as no contracts have been signed yet.

The NEC season will take a holiday break, then resume Jan. 7. Six mid-week makeup dates have been incorporated into the schedule in case of games being canceled due to outbreaks or positive COVID-19 tests on the teams.

The conference tournament field has been reduced from eight teams to four, with the games taking place at the home of the higher seed. The men’s semifinals will be March 6 and the finals March 9. The women’s semifinals will be March 10 and the championship game March 14.
